Here is the information for Scientific Word/WorkPlace/Notebook version 6.0.10. Please read the list of updated features and decide whether you wish to update to version 6.0.10, following the Installation instructions below.

  1. Version 6.0.10:    Updates in v6.0.10 include:
In our opinion, the single improvement highlighted in red – promised in our December 2015 mailing (Item 1) – alone makes v6.0.10 a significant update for all the home use systems attached to our campus-wide Site licences.

  2. Installation Instructions:    The latest versions of Scientific Word/WorkPlace/Notebook are always available from our Download page. We recommend re-installing TeXLive and selecting Skip to create a new installation (even though it is not supposed to be necessary).

  3. Emails not arriving:    One of our long-time users (he's been with us since the last century) wrote to say:
I found the December 23 mailing in Spam on the university server. Hopefully, future messages will not be flagged that way, but when you send the next one perhaps you can remember to let me know?
We promised we would try to solve the problem of our Emails getting filtered out in this way. We are therefore trialling a system of sending this Email as normal, and also sending a second message simply consisting of a link to this mailing on our website.
If you receive this Email, you can safely ignore/delete the other Email with the link; if you receive only that Email with the link, we would like to know in order to see just how widespread the problem is. Thanks...

  4. Windows 10:    Our advice remains unchanged. As we wrote to one of our users recently:
We really don’t recommend Windows 10: many people have been having lots of problems with all kinds of software with it.
In fact, the best thing about Windows 10 seems to be its Windows 7 compatibility mode – see our September 2015 mailing (https://www.sciword.co.uk/mailings/September2015.htm) Item 7
We’re making no promises about Windows 10; we don’t recommend it; but if you do go ahead you will probably be able to run our software – at worst by using Windows 7 compatibility.

  5. Version 5.5:    We have recently seen one (and possibly a second) reported issue with registering a v5.5 system using a v6.0 (E0700) serial number. MacKichan Software have responded to our request for comment saying:
There is / was a known issue with a few 5.5 if a v6 license was registered first...
While we haven't got to the bottom of whether there is a problem here, it's always possible for us to create licence files manually as part of our Unbeatable Expert Technical Support . Please don't be afraid to ask us if you have a problem.

Thanks for reading! We send this mailing to our users every couple of months or so. But please just let us know if you no longer wish to remain on our mailing list.
We'll be in touch shortly with more tips and technical information for making the most of this market-leading software.

This software is way too good to keep to yourself! Why not tell your friends...

Cheers,

Christopher
