Changing to your Scientific WorkPlace permanent serial number
People frequently buy their permanent licence of Scientific WorkPlace towards the end of the 30-day demo period.
They've already got the program installed and are happy with it.
Pressure of time means that all they really want to do is activate the new serial number with a minimum of fuss, and carry on working. Here's how to do it.
In version 5.5:
- Click on Help – System Features – Change Serial Number and enter your new permanent serial number; click OK – OK
- Re-register by clicking on Help – Register – By an automated web service, and follow through the v5.5 installation instructions from Step 5 to register online and have the program install your new licence file. After you close and re-open your Scientific WorkPlace program, you will have a permanent working system; the test of a correct installation is that when you click on Help – System Features you have a dozen or so lines saying "Available"
- Occasionally it happens that the new licence information gets appended to the old licence information rather than replacing it, and your program still does not work correctly. In this case, exit Scientific WorkPlace, delete your file license.lic in the \Licenses folder of your installation (probably c:\swp55\Licenses\license.lic) and then re-register as in Step 2 above.
In version 6.0:
- Click on Help – Activate; enter your new permanent serial number and click OK
- The test of a correct installation is that when you click on Help – License Information you get a gold seal and a message saying "Thank you for supporting Scientific WorkPlace".
If you haven't correctly Activated, the Help – License Information message says "This computer is not licensed to run Scientific WorkPlace" and Scientific WorkPlace is not fully functional.
